Lead

The Li River runs through town with karst peaks on both banks; Elephant Trunk Hill sits by the water, Reed Flute Cave holds stalactites and coloured lights. Guilin sells “mountains and water”—not vast ranges, but pinnacles, caves, and a boat ride on the river. Most people pair Guilin with Yangshuo: a day in town for Elephant Hill and a cave, then boat or train to Yangshuo for Li River bamboo rafts, West Street, and cycling along the Yulong. It’s one of the most recognisable stops on a South China trip, and fits anyone who wants to pack “Guilin scenery” into 2–3 days.

Why Guilin Belongs on Your China Itinerary

Guilin’s draw is “mountains and water”: Elephant Trunk Hill, the Li River, Yangshuo’s pinnacles and the Yulong. The postcard views are real. It suits a short Guilin + Yangshuo combo: one day in town (Elephant Hill, Reed Flute Cave or Prince City), then 1–2 days for the Li cruise, West Street, and cycling. Easy to link by high-speed rail with Guangzhou, Nanning, or Changsha, and often slotted into a longer South China or one-month trip.
