The Li River runs through town with karst peaks on both banks; Elephant Trunk Hill sits by the water, Reed Flute Cave holds stalactites and coloured lights. Guilin sells âmountains and waterâânot vast ranges, but pinnacles, caves, and a boat ride on the river.
Most people pair Guilin with Yangshuo: a day in town for Elephant Hill and a cave, then boat or train to Yangshuo for Li River bamboo rafts, West Street, and cycling along the Yulong. Itâs one of the most recognisable stops on a South China trip, and fits anyone who wants to pack âGuilin sceneryâ into 2â3 days.
