How to Get to Kunming and Get Around
Getting to Kunming
By air: Kunming Changshui International (KMG); Metro Line 6 and airport shuttle to town; about 40 min–1 hr to the city.
By rail: Kunming Railway Station and Kunming South have high-speed and conventional services to Dali, Lijiang, Guiyang, Nanning and more; Kunming South is farther out—check the station name when booking.
In town and to the Stone Forest
Metro, bus and taxis are easy in town. To the Stone Forest: tourist shuttle, private car or shared ride, about 1.5 hours. Green Lake, Yunnan University and the Golden Temple are in or near town by bus or taxi. Dounan flower market is in Chenggong by metro.
Practical tip: Allow at least half a day for the Stone Forest and start early; Green Lake has gulls in winter, other seasons it’s strolls and greenery. In mushroom season (summer–autumn) eat only at reputable spots and cook thoroughly. If your taxi app doesn’t support English, show a map or ask the hotel to write “石林” â€śçż ćą–â€ť “金殿” for the driver.
